Project Title: Penetration Testing on Consumers Internet of Things (IoT) devices.
The main aim of this project is to investigate the security of the consumers Internet of Things (IoT ) through the Penetration testing methods.
Many scholars believe that these gadgets are not secure and they just like the low hanging fruit. Many individuals nowadays heavily relay on these devices and unknowingly share or make their sensitive information easily accessible to hackers. As the result of this the number and type of cyber attacks towards these devices are constantly rising.
This project also aims to find an answer to the question like Are Consumers IoT device are secure? If no what are the security weakness of this devices?
To do so first an IoT network that can mimic the real world scenario was designed and implemented. Next,
the relevant penetration resting methodologies such as planning, information gathering, discovery and attacking were adopted and tested on the target devices (IP camera and the TCP Smart light Bulb).
Finally, after evaluating the test results, The findings revealed the presence of security weakness in the target IoT devices. Additionally, the result findings from the testing section of this project also evident that the devices were using insecure communication services (HTTP).
I chose this course because I was always interested in computers and technology. I believed this course will enrich me with the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills about computer networks and cybersecurity.
I chose UWTSD because the Uni has very friendly, approachable and supportive staff who are willing to go the extra mile to break down very complex problems in a simple and understandable way. Moreover, the course is accompanied with practical exercises so that one can get a chance to develop the required industrial skills from the Cisco Lab. The cybersecurity course teaches you the necessary skills to protect against cyber threat actors.
I would like to go to the Cybersecurity area.
