Project Title: INVESTIGATION INTO FRONT WING END PLATE EFFECT ON FRONT WHEEL WAKE
The aim of my project was to reduce the wake region around the front wheel of a Formula 3 vehicle. It was done by optimizing a design for the front wing end plate. Using Computational Fluid Dynamics an end plate was studied in terms of its height, length, taper and angle as well as the footplate design. the best result for reducing the wheel wake was carried forward each time aiming to improve step by step. It was found that by improving the end plate design the wake region behind the wheel was reduces by almost half its length as well as the downforce improving by over 12% at a cost of just 1.92% drag.
I’ve always been passionate about Motorsport and have grown up surrounded by it. It’s always been my passion and wanted to pursue a career in it.
The new facilities proved that the school was big on engineering and the tutors told me about their background and proved they were passionate about the subjects also. The city is also a very nice area.
I havent got a specific area in which i would like to work in but i like to be hands-on rather than doing the work through a computer.
